I remember grinding my teeth and saying that pledge in Elementary school. It became such a subconscious habit that I wouldn’t even realize when I began or when I ended saying it. It was a monotonous routine along with the morning announcements and Whitney Houstons – Greatest Love Of All. Back then, I would pray before my spelling and math tests religiously because I was taught to do so. That was the early ’90s. Prayer has been taken out of schools for years now and the noise seem to have died down about it due to other things in the media – it is crazy how the media inadvertently dictate what we are aware and “angry” about.

But I digress.

It seems as though even though America claims to be “one nation, under God” they can’t possibly define who that God is in regards to a specific religion. Thus to avoid sectarianism they remove prayer out of schools altogether. How this is legal, I have no clue. How removing prayer out of schools does not seem to be some sort of Agnostic sectarian move baffles me even more. March 11th, 2010, there was a case where the United States Court Of Appeals For The Ninth Circuit  upheld the words “under God” in the Pledge of Allegiance in the case of Newdow vs Rio Linda Union School District. The court eventually ruled that the words were of a “ceremonial and patriotic nature” and did not constitute an establishment of religion. So. . .  What ARE you doing America? Speak of a God in “ceremonial and patriotic nature” but don’t honor that god in a reverent fashion as prayer?

I’m not saying for America to pick a religion and affix that as the Nations perception of God, but at the same time don’t inhibit children in such critical age groups from establishing a sense of a personal relationship with God in all aspects of their life.
